Update Nexus 9 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow Developer Preview 3 Factory Image

The official Android 6.0 Marshmallow Developer Preview 3 has been released by Google for all of the Nexus 9 devices. Currently the Developer Preview 3 Android 6.0 is a test build which is designed to install on Nexus 9 as Google has chosen this name “The Android 6.0 Marshmallow” for the upcoming Android mobile OS. So if you’d like to flash this new test firmware on your phone then you can follow the given steps to flash the factory images to get Google’s revealed awesome features.

This latest Android Marshmallow 6.0 3rd Developer Preview comes with stable performance, improved interface, bugs fixes and some other new features. Keep in mind that before proceeding to the installation guide take a proper backup of all your data because this Developer Preview 3 Android 6.0 is a full copy of a stock firmware and will wipe all the data from your smartphone. You can flash this factory image over a custom ROM too.

Note:

This guide is only compatible with the Google Nexus 9 tablets, codename “volantis”. Do not try to install this factory image on any other device or incorrect variants.

Warning:

Pre-Requirements:

  • Make sure to create a proper backup of all your important files before proceeding to the process of Android 6.0 Marshmallow Factory Image.
  • Download and install the Google USB Drivers for the Nexus 9 on your PC.
  • With the installation of this firmware any custom Recovery will be replaced with a stock Recovery image
  • If the Nexus 9 is rooted, then remember that installation will revoke root access.
  • Enable the USB Debugging option by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • The battery level of your device should be at least about 80% to prevent unexpected shutdowns during installation.

Steps to Flash Android 6.0 Marshmallow Preview 3 Factory Image on Nexus 9:

1:- First, download and install Android SDK on your PC. setup the Android SDK for your PC.

2:- Find the SDK Manager exe that will be in the Android SDK installation folder and download and install all the SDK packages and drivers.

3:- A new “Platform-Tools” folder will be created after the installation of all drivers. Open the folder.

4:- Download the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Preview 3 Factory Image (volantis-MPA44I-preview-5c30a6e2.tgz) from the above given link on your PC.

5:- Unzip the Factory Image and save the file in the “Platform-Tools” directory under the SDK directory.

6:- Turn OFF the Nexus 9 in order to boot into Bootloader / Fastboot Mode (How To?)

7:- Connect your Nexus 9 device to the PC using its USB data cable.

8:- Navigate to “Platform-Tools” folder and run a command prompt within the folder.

9:- Verify your phone if it is recognized by your PC by giving the following command:

adb devices

10:- Start the update now by launching the “flash-all.bat” script.

10:- Confirm the installation of Android 6.0 factory image and once the Factory Image has been successfully installed, reboot the Nexus 9 in normal mode.

Done! You’ve successfully installed Android 6.0 Marshmallow Developer Preview 3 Factory Image on the Nexus 9.
