Update HTC One M7 to Android 5.1 Lollipop via CyanogenMod 12.1 custom Firmware

The unofficial CyanogenMod 12.1 custom build featuring Google’s latest Android 5.1 Lollipop can be installed now on the HTC One M7. Thanks to the AndroidGeek974 (senior XDA member) for releasing this unofficial CM12.1 custom ROM for M7 devices and according to the developer; all of the Lollipop features are working fine in the build. But as this is not an official ROM released by CyanogenMod team, it is expected that you might face some bugs as this ROM is still in testing stages.

HTC has not yet confirmed the exact date that when the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to arrive for HTC One M7 GPe anytime soon. But if you can’t wait for the official release of this firmware then follow the given guide to install CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM on your HTC One M7 that brings with all cool features of 5.1 update, stock Android UI and amazing options that comes with CM12.1. Since this is a custom ROM which is developed by third-party developers, not officially released by HTC, thus you’ll need to have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM already installed on your phone in order to flash the CyanogenMod 12.1 and Google Apps zipped files.

Flash Android 5.1 Lollipop on HTC One M7 with CM12.1 ROM

Note:

This guide containing the Android 5.1 CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM is only working with the HTC One M7 (1st Gen). Do not try to flash this custom firmware on any other device or any incorrect variant, or your device might get bricked. You must check the model number of the device first.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Take a proper backup of all your important data of the One M7 before proceeding to the installation guide using a recommended custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
  • Enable USB Debugging Mode on your HTC One M7 by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • The HTC One M7 should be rooted with the latest version of custom recovery installed.
  • The bootloader of the phone must be unlocked.
  • Check the battery level of your One M7, it should be charged at least about 70% to prevent unexpected shutdowns while installation.

Steps to Install Android 5.1 Lollipop on HTC One M7 via CyanogenMod 12.1 [Unofficial] ROM

1:- First, download the Android 5.1 Lollipop CM12.1 ROM (cm-12.1-20150405-UNOFFICIAL-m7.zip) and Google Apps package from the above given links on the desktop of your PC.

2:- Connect the HTC One M7 with the PC using its USB data cable and transfer the downloaded firmware and Gapps files to the internal storage of your phone. (without extracting)

3:- Turn OFF the phone in order to boot into recovery mode.

Disable the fastboot option from Settings > Battery > Uncheck Fastboot option at the bottom of the screen.

4:- Next, press and hold Volume Down + Power keys altogether and then release Power key while holding Volume Down key. Your HTC One M7 should boot into bootloader mode, which is the same as Recovery mode. Your device will be entered into the Recovery Mode after appearing a boot option on the screen.

  • Press Volume Down to navigate to Recovery
  • Press Power key to boot into Recovery Mode

 

5:- While your device is now in Recovery Mode, navigate to the main menu of recovery and choose Backup and do a swipe on the Swipe to Back Up option on the bottom of the screen to create backup.

6:- Go back to the main recovery screen and select Wipe, Advanced Wipe, Cache, Dalvik cache and Data. After that swipe on the Swipe to Factory Reset option.

7:- Next, choose Install then locate the CM12.1 ROM that you’ve already transferred to the internal storage of your phone, select it and tap on Swipe to Confirm Flash option to begin the installation process. This process might take some time, so wait until the installation is successfully finished.

8:- Now, install Google Apps package by repeating the above steps.

9:- Finally, Select RebootSystem to reboot the phone.

That’s it! You’ve successfully installed the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop on One M7 with CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM.

  1. Works great. The only bug I’ve encountered is that the toggle for network data from quick settings doesn’t work. Hope it gets fixed soon otherwise it would be my daily ROM. C:
