Samsung launched its latest flagship device of the note series, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 a few months back and it is currently one of the best Android devices available in the market with stellar performance and exceptional camera quality. The Note 8 generally received positive reviews with people particularly praising its design and the display quality. Samsung released the Note 8 in 2 variants, an Exynos processor variant for South Korea region and a Snapdragon 835 variant for other parts of the world.
While the Exynos variant of the device has already received the SuperSU file for rooting, the Snapdragon version of the device specific to the US has just recently got the SamFAIL file and you can now use it to root your Galaxy Note 8 by following the step by step instructions below. However, before proceeding remember the fact that once you root your device and unlock your bootloader besides getting additional control and extra features, you will also be voiding your warranty. So if you are not ready to lose that yet then you might not want to proceed.
Unlike SuperSU which will disable the Samsung Pay feature on your Note 8 along with tripping the built in Knox file, SamFAIL is a better choice as it does not disable Samsung Pay nor will alternate your Knox settings. But unfortunately it comes with its own set of disadvantages like the frequent need to update the SuperSU file, not able to charge your device beyond 80% and some other minor issues. But these would be fixed in the future updates of SamFAIL so that shouldn’t be a huge problem.
But the major issue with SamFAIL is that since it roots your device by modifying the boot image and the system partition, some apps like Snapchat, Pokemon Go, Android Pay and Netflix might not work on your device. If you are a fan of any of these apps then it is probably best that you don’t root your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 until a solution is found to fix this. However, if you don’t mind, just follow the below steps to root your Galaxy Note 8 right now.
