Moonbreakers Android 5.1.1 Lollipop ROM for Xperia Z3

Note:

This tutorial containing the Android 5.1.1 Moonbreakers Lollipop custom ROM can be used only with Sony Xperia Z3. Please do not try to install this firmware on any other device or incorrect variant, as a result the device might gets bricked. Verify the model number of your device from Settings > About Phone.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Make sure to make a proper backup of all your data and settings on your phone before proceeding to the installation guide.
  • Download and install USB drivers for the Sony Xperia Z3 on the PC.
  • Your phone should be rooted.
  • The latest version of a custom recovery like ClockworkMod recovery should be installed on it.
  • The Bootloader of your Xperia Z3 should be unlocked.

Required Files:

Steps to Install Android 5.1.1 Moonbreakers Lollipop ROM on Sony Xperia Z3:

1:- First, download the Moonbreakers Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM ([XZ3]RXS MoonBreakersEdition[4.5.1].zip) from the above given link for Sony Xperia Z3 on the desktop of PC.

2:- Extract the firmware .zip file to get boot.img file separately.

3:- Connect the Sony Xperia Z3 with the PC using its USB data cable and mount its USB mass memory.

4:- Transfer the downloaded Android 5.1.1 ROM zip file to the root folder of your SD card on the phone.

5:- Copy/paste the boot.img file to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory on your PC.

6:- Power OFF your Xperia Z3 in order to boot into Bootloader Mode.

7:- Press and hold the Volume Up button while connecting it again with the USB cable. The LED of the phone will turn blue and it will get into the Bootloader Mode.

8:- While the Z3 is now in the Fastboot mode, go to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory on the PC and launch command prompt.

9:- Type the following command and hit Enter:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

10:- Then, give the following command:

fastboot reboot

10:- Next, boot the Z3 into Recovery Mode. To do so, first turn ON the phone by pressing the Volume Up or Volume Down keys a few times till the LED light turn pink.

12:- While your Xperia Z3 is now in the ClockworkMod Recovery, perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and Wipe dalvik cache too. From CWM recovery, go to ‘advanced’ and then select “wipe dalvik cache”.

Note: Wipe Dalvik Cache will help you to prevent boot loops or any other errors while installing the ROM.

13:- Go back to the main menu of recovery and select “install zip from SD card” > “choose zip from sdcard”.

14:- Find the Moonbreakers Android 5.1.1 ROM .zip file which you have transferred to the root folder of your SD Card already. Select it using the Power button and confirm the ROM installation process to begin.

15:- Once the ROM installation completes, navigate to “+++++Go Back+++++” and reboot the phone by choosing reboot system now from the recovery menu.

Now the Xperia Z3 will be rebooted and may take about 4 to 5 minutes to boots up for the first time after installing ROM.

  1. Hello, please clarify something for a humble root newbie. In the list of avantages it says :rooted, wich, I assume means it will root the device. But later, in before you begin, it says phone must be rooted. I am confused. If I do need to root prior too, is it possible on android 5.1.1 ?
