Let’s say you have forgotten your WiFi password or perhaps you don’t wish to seem bothersome by repeatedly asking someone for the password. The good news is, you do not have to fret over it because you can easily obtain the said Wi-Fi password; however, there’s a restriction to it.
How To Find Saved WiFi Password on Android With / Without Root
These steps are only applicable for networks that you have previously connected to. Now with that in mind, let’s proceed.
Without Rooting:
The reason why it’s more convenient to discuss methods that do not require rooting first is because they are effortless, whereas the methods with rooting involved are complicated and tremendously time-consuming.
Method 1: Using QR Scanner
Among one of the many handy updates of Android 10 is the availability of a Wi-Fi QR Code. Bearing in mind that this will only be functional in devices with Android 10, let’s analyze our first method.
Step 1: Open Play store and download “QR Scanner” as shown below
Step 2: In Settings > Wifi
Choose your desired network and click “Tap to share password”
Step 3: A QR Code will appear before you that might have your password under it. If you’re not yet able to view any password, proceed to Step 4.
Step 4: Capture a screenshot of the QR Code and open the QR Scanner app you had installed earlier.
Step 5: Tap “Scan Image”, choose the QR screenshot and then crop it so that it includes only The QR Code.
After you click on done, the app will automatically present to you the name of the Wi-Fi along with it’s password and an option to copy the password. Yes, it’s that easy!
Method 2: Using A File Explorer App To Find Saved WiFi Password on Android
There are numerous apps that you may use in order to explore and manage your files, among which ES File Explorer proves to be an exceptionally useful. There’s more to it, you can also use this app to gain system’s access and use it as your password finder which I will be showing you shortly.
Step 1: Download and open ES File Explorer
Step 2: Click on the menu in the top left corner and slide down to Phone Storage
Step 3: Search “wifi” and you will come across a folder named wifi containing around three to six files
Step 4: Click on the file “wpa_supplicant.conf”
Step 5: Open the file with a text file viewer to view your password.
If the method doesn’t work for you then you will have to repeat the same process but with root access which is explained later.
Method 3:
If none of the above methods have worked for you i.e. your android version is below 10 then, there’s still no reason to fret as I bring forth another method that does not involve rooting and will get your work done.
Step 1: Open Play Store and Download “Router Setup Page”
Step 2: Now the appearance of the page will be different for different users. Open the app and add the log in details of your network which mostly by default are “Admin”
(Make sure you are connected to the wifi during the process)
Step 3: Navigate to “Wireless” where you will find your wifi’s password in “Pre-shared key”
With Rooting:
Most of the steps in this will be similar to Method 2 but now with a rooted device
Step 1: With a rooted device, open file manager on your android device.
Step 2: In the side menu, scroll down and turn on “Root Explorer”
Step 3: Local > Device > Data > misc
Step 4: Click on the file named “wpa_supplicant.conf” and choose HTML Viewer.
After the file opens, you will see the name of your network after “ssid” with its passwords written after the words “psk”.
That’s a wrap! So far you learned three methods to recover your password without rooting and one method with rooting required. Now you may use the one that is most convenient for you, do enlighten us about which one you found most simple or if in your knowledge there is any other approach to it.
