Flash The Official Android 6.0 Marshmallow Firmware on Galaxy S6 SM-G920F / S6 Edge

The latest Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F) received the Official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update as the Samsung has rolled out this official firmware for both Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge devices. You can now easily update your device to this official Android 6.0 Marshmallow via OTA or Samsung KIES depending on the carrier and your country. But if the update is currently not available in your region and can’t wait for this update to be officially released in your area then don’t worry, you can still install Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware on Galaxy S6 model number SM-G920F manually by following the given step-by-step guide. Thanks to the community developers for providing the ROM, taken from Samsung and modified for compatibility.

In this guide we’ll use Recovery method to install this Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware the Galaxy S6. Although there are other two methods available to install the firmware but they are a bit complicated. The recovery method is also confirmed to work 100% by the XDA community. Now go ahead and follow the given instructions to flash the Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge. Keep in mind that the Marshmallow firmware given below is a Beta version.

Note:

This guide containing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware file and instructions can be used only with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Do not try to install this firmware on any other devices. Verify the model number of your device from: Settings > About Phone.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Take a proper backup of all your important data and settings on the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge before doing anything.
  • Download and install the Samsung USB Drivers from on your computer.
  • Make sure to disable the Samsung KIES app and antivirus on the PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging option by from Settings > Developer Options.
  • Ensure that the battery charge level of your Galaxy Note is above 70% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Steps To Update Galaxy S6/S6 Edge to Official Marshmallow Firmware:

1:- First of all, download all of the above files on the desktop of your PC.

2:- Connect the Galaxy S6 to the PC using its USB data cable and power it OFF in order to boot into Download Mode.

3:- Turn the device ON while pressing and holding the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons simultaneously till the Galaxy S6 boot into Download Mode.

4:- Run Odin flashing tool on your PC as an Administrator and click on BL button. Select the 5.1.1 Bootloader file.

5:- Install the 5.1.1 Bootloader and proceed to install Marshmallow. Now click on AP button, choose the TWRP 3.0 recovery image file and flash it on the phone by clicking on OK button.

6:- Boot the device into Recovery mode. Power OFF the phone and then press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home buttons at the same time.

7:- Now, move the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware .zip file to the Galaxy S6. While your device is now in TWRP recovery, select the ROM .zip file and click on the Install button to begin installation.

8:- Once the ROM installation is successfully finished, go ahead and again boot the device into Download Mode.

9:- Run Odin and click on the BL button. Select the 6.0.1 Bootloader file and flash it.

10:- If you want to get root access on your device, again boot it into recovery and flash SuperSU .zip file.
